The New Voice Tarot

A contemporary Rider–Waite–Smith inspired Tarot deck, consisting of 78 cards (88 × 146 mm) presented in a holographic magnetic-closure box. Each set includes a 120-page full-colour guidebook with card meanings, spreads, and an introduction to Tarot reading. Classic archetypes through a modern, inclusive and queer lens, featuring diverse identities, bodies, and cultures. Real-world locations and contemporary references are integrated into the visuals, connecting symbolic meaning with lived experience.

A personal and deeply crafted project, designed to bring Tarot into a more open, contemporary visual language.

My name is Rosario, an Italian artist and teacher specializing in sculpture and drawing. For a decade I have been drawn to tarot and I created my first deck, the New Choice Tarot de Marseille, which has been highly acclaimed by the tarot community and published in two editions. My newest project is the New Voice Tarot, inspired by the Rider–Waite–Smith tradition.

For me, creating tarot card decks is a labor of love. It took me over four years to bring this deck to life. I have dedicated countless hours, often working day and night, and I have studied esoterism, symbology, and numerology from many books — including the ‘Bible of Tarot’: Seventy-Eight Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack. Through that research, and through making my own decks, I have tried to go deeper on what each card means, and to design the images with precision so the deck stays true to the tradition in spirit.

The New Voice Tarot is a modern, inclusive, queer-friendly reinterpretation of the traditional model, with fashion- and entertainment-inspired figures reflecting a range of identities, genders, abilities, and ethnicities. The illustrations are richly coloured and detailed, with care for the esoteric meanings held in each card.

I wanted a deck that reflects our contemporary world: characters that feel a little happier and more open-hearted, and a space to celebrate LGBTQ+ people and the freedom to express who we are. I also wanted a tone that felt different from a sombre Rider–Waite feeling — the deck you see here is the direction I was aiming for.

I also wanted the deck to speak with real places and skylines, so a reader can connect the cards to a lived, contemporary world. Cities like New York and Florence are folded into the work as a bridge between tarot and the day-to-day, with the hope that the imagery feels both symbolic and a little more familiar when it lands in a reading.

In making the cards, I also worked from portraits of people I find inspiring — and friends — so the set feels a little more real and personal. I hope the deck can honour those relationships and the wider human experience as you read with it.

This project has been an incredible journey, full of joys and challenges. I am proud of the work that went into it, and I hope it finds a good home on your table.
